Sherry’s Story

Posted on: 23 Sept

Sherry came to Evida Living in October last year after many years of living with severe depression and social isolation. She had withdrawn from the world around her and even the most basic self-care had become difficult. Moving into our Supported Independent Living home in Campbelltown marked the beginning of a new chapter — one where she could feel safe, supported, and part of a family-like environment.

At first, it was not easy. Sherry had grown used to being alone, but with patience and gentle encouragement she began to trust again. She started to share stories she hadn’t spoken about in years and slowly built connections with our team. Step by step, she re-engaged with life — joining in at a Christmas BBQ, taking short trips to the local shop, and eventually finding the confidence to venture further to places like Kmart. Each outing was a milestone in her journey back to the community.

Her self-care also began to improve. With the right medical support and respect for her choices, Sherry overcame long-standing barriers to her personal wellbeing and regained dignity in her daily routines. Today, she showers regularly, takes pride in her appearance, and feels more comfortable expressing her needs.

Sherry’s story is one of quiet but powerful transformation. From isolation and self-neglect to trust, confidence, and independence, she has shown that with compassion and consistency, it is possible to rediscover hope and joy step by step.
